I had heard of only statues or bust designed of human beings but to my amazement for the very first time a Chinese theme park has been built and its main feature is a large penis. This 30ft huge totem stands at Longwan Shaman amusement park in Changchun city.
The 30ft structure resembles exactly the real penis and has been named Sky Pillar. It is built using wrapping more than 6500ft of straw around a steel structure and stands on an altar atop 1250ft high Qinlong Hill.
The president of the park, Cheng Weiguang said:
It is a totem of Shamanistic culture, which originated in this city.
Legend has that a Shaman hero, Ewenki conquered a cruel female ruler. She was then given a penis totem and was told by Ewenki to respect males and not kill them at will. The ruler set the penis totem on top of the hill.
Shi Lixue, director of the China Folk Culture Association, approved the project of erecting the totem in the park and said:
It symbolises our ancestors’ pursuit of happiness and prosperity.
However, the sight of the totem makes some tourists feel uncomfortable but others seem unaffected as they take it as just a pillar and a symbol of the park.
