Nature has endowed China with many places of ultimate lure. Guilin in the northeast of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is one of China’s leading tourist locations.
The limestone karst mountains and Yangshuo’s laidback setting have long drawn backpackers and nature enthusiasts. Two types of karst landscapes predominate in Guilin are fenglin or peak forest and fengcong or peak cluster.

The charming Li River is one of the major attractions of the Guilin region and has been described as a green silk ribbon with hills like jade hairpins. It is ideal for exploration on a boat. Drifting down the Li River, it’s easy to feel lost in time.

There are geological offerings of Guilin that can be explored in many ways. You can rent a bicycles or electric bikes and take a riding tour of the countryside.
If you want caving, you will find it around Guilin. You can go to Black Buddha Cave, Moon Water Cave and Dragon Cave.

If your interest in rocks tends to be more above ground than below, then Bike up to Moon Hill. It’s a mountain with a naturally circular rock window at the top that provides a spectacular panoramic view of the area.

When to go:
Guilin can be visited all year round but summers offer a few extra pleasures, such as taking a Bamboo Raft on the Yulong River, a tributary of the Li River, or golfing in one of the many golf resorts.
No matter what time of year you go, do your homework first and plan to spend at least a few days in the region. Celebrations that include everything from a lantern festival to dragon boat races abound, so be sure to check to see if one will be occurring while you’re there. It’s well worth it.

Guilin has always inspired poets and artists. There are many hills the names of which are poetic. Guilin’s scenery is the most beautiful under heaven. A trip or vacation to China is not complete if you don’t visit this wonderful place.
