Lugu Lake lies in the mountains of Yunnan and Sechuan provinces, is a worth place to see the marvelous scenery with unique the Mosuo Culture, the only matriarchal tribe in China. The lake looks a like a shining pearl in the midst of hills. However it is in a remote area and is inconvenient to reach, but the natural environment has not been polluted and the water is very clean. It stretches long from north to south, and narrower from east to west.

It covers 52 square kilometers, 2685 meters above the sea level. The average depth is 45 meters, the deepest point being 93 meters.
The lake changes its vista throughout the day. It gives orange glow in the morning as sun rays mingle in the cool mist of lake. In the mid of the day shadows of surrounding hills turns water’s color into emerald green. The lake is tranquil and murky green in the evening when the sun sinks. The small village by the lake has some essential accommodations and after taking a boat trip on the lake there is a beautiful Ninglang County to visit.

Five islands on the lake seems floating boats on the water. Heiwawu Island, Liwubi Island, and Lige Island are most visited places. Heiwawu Island is in the center of the lake boasts variety of birds living on it.
Apart from its natural charm, the region has also gained fame for Mosuo people who live there in a matriarchal society. The tribe is known for the unique customs, which still exist in their ancient culture.
