The city folks of Japan are destroying the Mt.Fuji wilderness area by dumping trash. The situation has already got out of hand.
Staring from old and rusty refrigerators to broken TVs, the once upon a time pristine wilderness of Mt.Fuji area has turned into a town dump. As a wilderness lover and outdoor enthusiast, I think this is a sorry state of affairs in Japan. Let’s see what’s going on.
* Every wilderness area has a litter problem. Things are pretty bad in Mt.Fuji area of Japan. According to Mayumi Wakamura, a person who cleans up Mt.Fuji area periodically, 187,000 pound of trash has been dumped in the area.
Wakamura mentions:
We’ve found everything from household trash to broken TV sets and other appliances.
* Sources say that illegal dumping of trash is hard to stop. This is because there is hardly any monitoring done to prevent this. Groups are out there to patrol the area. But, without public awareness little can be achieved.

The solution to trash problem?
*Mt. Fuji Comprehensive Environment Protection Guidelines: Back in 1996 guidelines were written to solve the trash problem. But, not much has been achieved.
* The public must be educated in order to solve the problem from growing in future.
Mountaineer and environmental activist Ken Noguchi agrees:
Picking it up is not enough — people have to learn not to create so much in the first place.
So, if nothing is done anytime soon, we might find this awesome Japanese wilderness vanishing. Instead of serene pristine wilderness, you might be find litter spread stinky forest with crap load of garbage all over. I think it’s time for the Japanese to do something about this problem.
