The strikingly beautiful building you see in the picture above is the Kinkaku-ji temple. Popularly known as The Golden Pavilion, it’s a temple that is literally covered in gold leaf and seems to be floating on the water.
Shinden-zukuri (Ho-sui-in), Buke-zukuri (Cho-on-do), Karayo style or Zen temple style (Kukkyo-cho) are the three different types of architecture of this elegant and harmonious building. Second and the third floor of the building are covered with gold-leaf on Japanese lacquer. The roof is thatched with shingles.
The pond on which the building seems to float is Kyoko-chi (Mirror pond) that features numerous large and small islands. On the way to the exit of the temple, you’ll find the small Fudodo shrine where the stone Fudo-myoc (Acara) is enshrined as a guardian.
An-min-taku, Hakuja-no-tsuka (the mound in memory of the white snake), Sekka-tei (classic tea house) are some of the beautiful places you can visit while on trip to this beautiful temple.
