For all of us living in the city, it does us a world of good to head to a beautiful destination be it a hill station, a temple town, a great-looking beach or a lovely island. If you are thinking of an island, well, why not Boracay Island in the Philippines. And if you are a surfing buff or a water sport enthusiast, waste no time, you have got to head ‘Boracaywards’. At Boracay, you have a wide variety of water sports to choose from. You can choose to go either sailing or wind surfing or snorkelling or even KITE SURFING!
What is Kite Surfing?
Kite surfing is also known as kite-skiing or fly-surfing. Here there is a colourful kite, which looks like a parachute, atop the surfer and 4 lines connect this parachute-like kite to the surfer and the surfboard. To become a kite surfer you have to go through a 3-and-a-half day course that may cost you $350.
Kite surfers’ gear
The equipment, consisting of a wipika/flysurfer or the kiteski, may cost you around $600 to $1,500. You can even rent one for $90.
The 7-km long Pacific island which is as narrow as 1 km at its narrowest point has 3 large villages or ‘barangays’ - Yapak, Balabag and Manoc-Manoc - the last of these being the most populated.
The White Beach in Baracay is the most popular. Diniwid Beach lies north of the White Beach and accommodation here will cost you half as much as on the White Beach. Then there is also the Punta Beach.
A quick way to get to Boracay would be by air from Manila via Caticlan. For more about travelling to Boracay you can visit Boracayonline.
